New Wisconsin Meteorite

Posted under Uncategorized by admin on Friday 21 May 2010 at 5:08 pm

A fireball seen from four states believed to have been a large meteor streaked across the sky on April 14th 2010 at approximately 10:00 PM local time. The fireball was reportedly seen from Northern Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Southern Wisconsin. There have been several reports of a prolonged sonic boom received and some videos have been generously shared with the public on many websites.

Meteorite hunters have rushed to Wisconsin in hopes to find a fresh piece of the stars, after the first stone was recovered 22 hours after the fall. On April 16, 2010, a meteorite expert named Noriko Kita at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, analyzes a piece of rock believed to be from the April 14 meteor over Southwestern Wisconsin. The fragment was found by a Wisconsin farmer and brought to the university for analysis. The meteorite is not yet classified at this time.

Meteorite hunter Eric Wichman has found 4 pieces of the new fresh Wisconsin fall. Some pictures are shared below from his recoveries:
